“My favourite piece of furniture has to be the timeless classic: the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman.”
“I had the unusual opportunity to take a furniture design and build studio in my first year of Architecture school and had studied the history of the Eames design studio and their experimentation with bending plywood with heat and pressure for use by the navy during the second world war. They pursued the concepts of mass production in all of their work in order to bring “good design” to the masses.”
“The inspiration for the lounger came from being on set with a friend and creating a makeshift temporary rest area while on set. The chair was born out of their knowledge of bending plywood and it was married with the soft, warn in comfort of a first baseman’s mitt.”
“Despite it’s humble origins, the Eames Lounge and Ottoman are in the permanent collection of NY’s MOMA and suits every design aesthetic I have encountered. A true timeless (and comfortable!) classic. Pair it with an Saarinen tulip side table and you’re set for a weekend of respite.” – Pamela Úbeda, Architect and Principal at at Coast + Beam
