Pinterest, the visual discovery engine that many use to pin inspirations and plan their lives, has released Pinterest Predicts, an annual trend report that looks beyond to the biggest trends of the upcoming year.
Over 400 million people turned to Pinterest in 2020 each month to discover inspiration and new ideas on how to navigate their lives during these unprecedented times.
Pinterest analyzed new behaviours during this time and have released them as insights which are “not-yet-trending” but will soon become the next-big-things.
Last year, Pinterest predicted 100 trends for 2020—and 80% of them came true.
Without further ado, here are some leading 2021 trends to keep an eye on.
SHELFIES
People will be collecting and investing in striking appliances, from clay plates to coloured glassware to display on their shelves.
There’s been an increase in searches year after year for: kitchen floating shelves (up 130%), copper cookware (up 35%), coloured glassware (up 135%), clay plates (up 105%).
MULTIPURPOSE SPACES AND JAPANDI DECOR
The home will continue to be the workplace, the gym, the school and more. People have been and continue to look for ways in which to define separate spaces in their homes and are transforming them into multifunctional spaces, such as a “cloffice” which is a closet/office.
Japandi – which is Japanese design meets Scandinavian aesthetic – is the next big trend in home decor. Think sleek lines, neutral palettes, and calming set-ups. Japandi showcases gorgeous craftsmanship, and quality handmade pieces with a focus on natural materials.
Searches for “Japandi” have gone up over 100% this year, “modern minimalist kitchen” over 115% ,and “bookshelf room divider” over 150%.
RUSTIC
Rustic inspired searches skyrocketed this year, with themes like “outdoor kitchen bars” increasing tremendously.
THRIFTED HOME DECOR
Pinners have been searching for new ways to support the environment and become conscious consumers; as a result “thrifted home decor” was a top search.
